Why choose Platinum Cured Silicone for sealing applications?
Most silicone gaskets are cured using peroxide catalysts, and it’s those catalysts that cause volatiles and outgassing once the material is in service. This grade uses a platinum cure system instead, the same clean cure process common in medical grade silicone, giving a material with extremely low volatile content and low outgassing. That makes it a strong choice anywhere outgassing could contaminate a process or cause problems for sensitive equipment nearby.
Temperature performance is where this grade really stands out, with a continuous service range of -60°C to +230°C and short term tolerance up to 250°C. It also offers excellent ozone resistance and excellent dry heat resistance, alongside good water resistance. Ingredients used in this formulation meet FDA compliance requirements and the grade also complies with EC1935/2004, making it a suitable choice for food and pharmaceutical applications as well as demanding industrial ones.
One honest limitation: this grade has poor resistance to acids, so it isn’t the right choice for applications involving acidic media. Resilience is also rated poor despite the material’s other strengths, which is worth factoring in for applications involving repeated dynamic loading rather than a static seal.
