Exhaust Gaskets

Exhaust gaskets, in particular head gaskets, are typically constructed from robust and reliable materials such as steel or copper. These materials are much more dependable than the composite materials of asbestos or graphite that were traditionally used in older technology, which had a tendency to fail over time due to blow-outs.

The head gasket is an essential component of the joint between an engine block and a cylinder head and must be capable of withstanding extreme temperatures and pressures without failing.

Our Bonded Seals (or Dowty Seals) consist of a rubber sealing element that is bonded to the inner wall of a metal washer. They are commonly used in applications where high pressures demand greater sealing capacity than can be obtained with Copper or other metallic washers.

The most basic type of semi-metallic gasket has a compressible insert enclosed within a metallic jacket. The insert material forces the metal to deform to suit the flange surface and effect a seal.

The are comprised of concentric grooves on both sides and can be coated with other materials to make a seal on distorted or uneven faces. Camprofile/Kammprofile gaskets are used in many older seals since they have both a flexible nature and reliable performance. Camprofiles work by having a solid corrugated core with a flexible covering layer. We stock a wide range of Garlock and Flexitallic Kammprofile gaskets.
