Why choose Beige/Blue FKM for high temperature and chemical resistant applications?
FKM, widely known by the trade name Viton, is a speciality fluoroelastomer that earns its place where standard rubbers give up, rather than serving as a general purpose material. This beige/blue grade resists water and acids very well and handles oils just as comfortably, with good resistance to alkalis on top. Its continuous service range of -20°C to +220°C sits well beyond the limits of nitrile and EPDM, and excellent ozone resistance means long term outdoor exposure isn’t a worry either.
FKM is a high priced speciality polymer, so it usually gets specified where very high temperatures meet exposure to petroleum or chlorinated solvents, rather than as a default for everyday sealing. In those conditions the extra cost tends to pay back through a longer service life and reliability that a standard rubber can’t match.
