Why choose Blue-Gard® 3700 for water and mild chemical sealing?
Blue-Gard 3700 is built from aramid fibres in an EPDM binder, which gives a strong sheet with a tensile strength across the grain of 15 N/mm². EPDM suits water-based media, and the data sheet lists water and mild chemicals as the main fluid services. The continuous maximum temperature is 205°C, with an absolute maximum of 371°C, and the pressure limit is 83 bar. The minimum temperature rating is -73°C, which the data sheet describes as conservative.
Compressibility averages 10% with 40% recovery, and creep relaxation is 25%. That last figure means the joint can lose some bolt load over time, so re-torquing before the system is pressurised matters. Thermal conductivity is low, at 0.29 to 0.38 W/m·K.
Thickness affects the working limits. The maximum pressure × temperature rating is 12,000 bar × °C for 1/32″ and 1/16″ sheet and 8,600 bar × °C for 1/8″ sheet, and 1/16″ is strongly preferred. The sheet also performed well in leakage testing, at 0.3 ml/hr with Fuel A under a 3.5 N/mm² gasket load.
