Why choose Blue-Gard® 3000 for water and oil service?
Blue-Gard 3000 is built from aramid fibres in a nitrile binder, which gives it a tensile strength across the grain of 15 N/mm² and suits it to oils and fuels as well as water. The data sheet lists water, aliphatic hydrocarbons, oils and gasoline as its fluid services. The continuous maximum temperature is 205°C, with an absolute maximum of 371°C, and the pressure limit is 70 bar. The minimum temperature rating is -73°C, which the data sheet describes as conservative.
It meets ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) specifications and BS 7531 Grade Y, a British Standard grading for compressed non-asbestos fibre jointing. That combination suits marine and general industrial work where the grade needs to be on record.
Once fitted, it holds on well. Compressibility averages 8% with 50% recovery, and creep relaxation is 21%, so the joint keeps most of its bolt load over time. Leakage testing was also tight, at 0.2 ml/hr with Fuel A under a 3.5 N/mm² gasket load.
Thickness affects the working limits. The maximum pressure × temperature rating is 12,000 bar × °C for 1/32″ and 1/16″ sheet and 8,600 bar × °C for 1/8″ sheet, so the thinner grades give you more headroom at high pressure and temperature.
