Why choose Hypalon?

Hypalon, more correctly called chlorosulphonated polyethylene or CSM, is best known for its resistance to weathering and ozone, an area where it outperforms neoprene and holds its colour rather than fading or degrading over time. It also offers excellent resistance to acids and good resistance to water and alkalis, along with moderate resistance to oils and hydrocarbons and fair resistance to fuels and petroleum solvents. With an operating range of -30°C to +130°C, it copes well with sustained heat exposure alongside its chemical resistance.

This material is often specified where outstanding resistance to strong oxidising acids is required, and it carries the added benefit of being self extinguishing and flame retardant. Unlike neoprene, Hypalon can also be produced in stable light colours, which makes it a useful option where appearance matters as well as performance. It does come at a higher cost than neoprene, reflecting its broader resistance profile.

One honest limitation: Hypalon offers only poor resistance to ketones, so it isn’t the right choice where the application involves exposure to these solvents.
