Why choose natural rubber?
Para rubber, also known as gum rubber, is built around one standout property: its ability to resist abrasion. With a rating of 83 mm³, it’s the material of choice for shotblast cabinet linings and any application where repeated surface impact or wear would quickly degrade a standard elastomer. It also offers good resistance to water, acids and alkalis, and fair resistance to ozone and ketones, giving it enough general durability to handle most everyday environments alongside its abrasion performance.
At 45° Shore A, this is a notably soft grade compared to most general purpose rubbers, which contributes to its resilience and its 600% elongation at break. That combination of softness and stretch helps the material absorb impact rather than crack or tear under it, exactly what’s needed when the surface is being bombarded with abrasive media.
One honest limitation: Para rubber has poor resistance to fuels and petroleum solvents, so it isn’t suitable for sealing applications involving hydrocarbons. For those, ask us about nitrile instead.
