Impact Protection Strips for Warehouses and Loading Bays: A Cheap Fix for Costly Damage

Oct 5, 2026 | Uncategorized

Every warehouse has that corner. The plaster is gouged, the paint is scuffed at forklift height, and nobody remembers who did it. PTM supplies impact protection strips for exactly these spots, and they cost very little next to the wall behind them.

Impact protection strips are moulded polyurethane foam profiles that do two jobs at once. They soak up a glancing knock so the surface behind survives, and they give drivers and pedestrians a clear visual warning that something solid sits there. The cushioning limits the damage while the warning cuts down how often it happens.

Where they earn their keep:

  • Door frames and dock edges where lorries reverse in
  • Wall corners where aisles turn
  • Pillars and columns, including purpose-made column protection
  • Racking uprights and aisle ends
  • Pipework and machine edges at knee or hip height

There’s a profile for each spot. Corner, edge, surface and push-fit versions cover most situations, with pipe and column versions for the rest, all listed on the impact protection page. Standard lengths are 1,000mm and 5,000mm, so long runs need fewer joins.

Fitting is simple. Self-adhesive strips go onto smooth, dust and grease-free surfaces and stay put, so wipe the area first, as adhesive won’t grip dust or grease. Magnetic versions suit places you need to clean or repaint regularly, since they lift straight off.

The arithmetic is hard to argue with. Repairing a wall means filler, paint and a day of disruption. A clipped racking upright usually means unloading the bay and getting it checked. Strips cost very little next to either.

They are cushioning, not armour. A loaded forklift at speed will go straight through foam, so a column that carries structural load or sits on a main traffic route still needs a steel barrier. Strips deal with the far more common scrapes and knocks.

Bay doors often need draught and dust control as well, and PVC strip curtains sit well alongside frame protection. The transport and warehousing page covers the rest of what suits sites like yours.

Tell PTM which corners keep getting hit through the contact page, and we’ll recommend profiles and lengths. Prefer to talk? Ring us on 01625 573971 or email photos and measurements to sales@epdm.co.uk.
