Thermiculite is a high-performance sealing material developed for extreme conditions. It’s based on vermiculite, a naturally occurring mineral, which gives it an exceptional ability to withstand very high temperatures without breaking down. Unlike asbestos-free fibre sheets or standard rubber-based materials, Thermiculite remains stable and effective in environments that would compromise most alternatives.
It carries no organic binders, which means there’s no burnout at elevated temperatures and no risk of the material becoming brittle or losing its sealing integrity under sustained heat. It’s also highly resistant to a wide range of chemicals, making it a practical choice where both temperature and chemical exposure are concerns.
Thermiculite is typically specified in applications where temperatures exceed what conventional gasket materials can handle. Power generation equipment, industrial furnaces, exhaust systems and petrochemical processing plant are all common areas where you’ll find it in use.
It’s also a strong choice for any application where fire safety is a consideration. Thermiculite retains its sealing properties even when exposed to flame, which makes it particularly relevant in safety-critical environments.
Thermiculite isn’t a one-size-fits-all material. There are several grades within the range, each developed for specific conditions. Thermiculite 715 is suited to general high-temperature applications. Thermiculite 815 is designed for use in more chemically aggressive environments. Thermiculite 894 sits at the top of the range, developed for the most demanding conditions where both temperature extremes and chemical resistance need to be met simultaneously. Selecting the right grade matters. Using a lower specification than your application demands will lead to premature failure and potentially serious consequences.
